Christmas Markets

Twilight markets are the perfect place to shop for Christmas gifts while enjoying our balmy Summer evenings. With the added bonus of reasonably priced, delicious food for dinner and free street entertainment, an evening at the markets is an ideal night out for the whole family.

Here is where you will find them.

 Christmas Lights

Who can resist the magic created by Christmas lights? There is no better way to get yourself into the Christmas spirit, than by viewing some of the amazing displays created lovingly each Christmas by residents and local businesses. Venues and maps are uploaded in December. Visit Sunshine Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Noosa Councils and the Sunshine Coast Daily publish all the information you need. Head to their websites for latest updates.

Tours are available if you’d rather let someone else take care of everything. Whale One offers boat cruises in the canal ways to view the lights from the water.

And speaking of water, don’t miss the annual Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade for a different take on the Christmas lights theme. (Image from Sunshine Coast Daily)

Christmas Carols

Evening Christmas Carols in outdoor parks have become an annual Christmas ritual popular with young and old alike. The Sunshine Coast offers many excellent venue choices. Take a picnic blanket or some chairs, buy your food and beverages or take your own, buy some glow sticks and sing your heart away! Most involve a visit from Santa and fireworks. Santa even skydives in at the Peregian Beach Christmas Carols!  Visit Sunshine Coast publishes a list of venues and dates.

Most Christian churches hold religious celebrations on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day, including nativity scenes and Christmas hymns.

Seafood

What Christmas lunch at the beach is complete without seafood? With the nationally famous Mooloolaba prawns literally fresh on our doorsteps, we are spoilt for choice. The Mooloolaba Seafood Markets on Parkyn Parade are possible the most famous, but there are a variety of seafood retailers and wholesalers across the coast, all offering an abundant choice of fresh, quality seafood.

Christmas Lunch

Whether a picnic under a shady tree or a 5-course banquet is more to your liking, the Sunshine Coast offers something and somewhere for every taste and budget to enjoy Christmas lunch. Many families set up early in the morning in ideal locations to make the most of the ocean breezes, shade, nearby swimming locations and beach side picnic areas and BBQs.

Eating Christmas lunch out at a restaurant or resort is becoming increasingly popular and commonplace. If your budget allows, it certainly takes all the stress out of food preparation for the day. A myriad of choices is available, regardless of where you are located. Here are some suggestions from Visit Sunshine Coast.

A variety of other activities are on offer. Well known attractions such as Aussie World, The Ginger Factory and Australia Zoo, all offer Christmas themed events and Santa visits and photos. Maleny holds a Christmas festival and street carnival and free outdoor family movies are popular beachside at Coolum Beach.

And of course, the natural attraction that brings most of us here… our world class beaches… are there to be enjoyed in some capacity by everyone.

Make the most of our beautiful natural environment and the vast range of Christmas events or celebrations available on the Sunshine Coast this year. Kick back and relax this Christmas in paradise!
